CANCELED: Night at the Museum: Secret Lives of Michigan Objects

Thursday, April 23, 2020
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

There’s plenty of science involved in history museums! When you walk into a history exhibit, you might not realize that there are invisible forces working against the artifacts on display – we call them ‘secret agents of deterioration.’ At this Night at the Museum event, get up close and personal with these ‘secret agents’ through hands-on activities and demonstrations for all ages – and learn the scientific ways we can slow down their effects.

Bonus activity! At 6 p.m., enjoy an interactive demonstration with special guests from the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. Discover the secrets of the nucleus by building a chart from towers of LEGO bricks, one for each of 130 isotopes in the first ten elements. The pattern of stable and radioactive nuclei will help explain the how the matter in your body was originally made in stars!
