Fall means Pumpkin Picking Time and We’re Ready for it!

Pumpkin picking at a pumpkin patch is a right of passage into the fall season in Michigan. It’s our way of telling ourselves, “it’s ok. The weather getting colder is fun, remember?”

Kids love to pick out the perfect pumpkin, especially if they have a certain shape in mind for their jack-o-lantern. Plus who doesn’t love getting out in the fresh air and walking through a sea of orange?

Pumpkin picking in Lansing is a fun family traditional that is on many people’s fall bucket list. Each location on our list has its own unique charm, giving you the option of choosing the experience that’s right for your family. Some are big, some are small, some offer U Pick, and some have taken them off the vine for you.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to visit a new one each year to spice things up!

Bonus: many of these pumpkin patches offer fun activities like corn mazes, cider, donuts, a wide selection of gourds, and much more.

Uncle John’s Cider Mill

If you’ve made the trip out to Uncle John’s in St. Johns, then you know why it’s first on our list. It’s way more than just a pumpkin patch; it’s a whole fall wonderland.

Uncle John’s offers a large pumpkin patch with a variety of sizes and also pumpkins that have already been picked that you can grab and take.

One of the most popular attractions at Uncle John’s is the jumping pillow, a gigantic, air-filled pillow made for jumping, that was replaced in 2023.

Besides pumpkins and jumping, you’ll have the best day ever checking out the cider mill, corn maze, train (new in 2023), wagon rides, sunflower patches, 5K farm trail, pickle ball, gemstone mining, bakery, gift shop, tap room, and cider yard with live music, food trucks, bonfires, yard games.

Reese Farms

This family-owned fourth generation farm in north Lansing is known for its sweet corn, but they also offer beautiful pumpkins in the fall.

Reese Farms is a self-serve pumpkin patch. The pumpkin wagons are available in the south drive from 9 AM – dusk. Reese Farm offers pumpkins in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and colors. Bring cash! Cost is between $.50 – $5 depending on the size.

Also for sale are corn stalk bundles, fresh vegetables, and fresh sweet corn.

Old Red Mill Farmers Market

Check out their social media to find out when pumpkins are rolling in, and then visit them on select Saturdays this fall. Open September 2, 16, and 30 from 9 AM – 1 PM for the 2023 season.

Clearview Orchards

While Clearview Orchards is known for its gorgeous apple orchard, this quiet orchard in Haslett also grows pumpkins. Head out to the pumpkin patch starting in September and grab the best one.

While you’re there, don’t forget to stock up on all sorts of fresh goods at their stand like honey, eggs, squash, gourds, and peaches while in season. Walk out to the apple orchard and pick away at the extensive selection of apples.

Shawhaven Farm

With free tractor rides out to the pumpkin patch and SO MUCH to do on the farm, Shawhaven makes a great choice for your fall bucket list.

The pumpkin patch for 2023 has moved into the former sunflower field, so don’t be surprised if you see a rogue sunflower or two!

Plan a whole day to this family-owned working farm in Mason. See farm animals close up, play games, and do activities at Fun Valley.

Peacock Road Family Farm

“Fall Fun on the Farm” is their motto and boy do they live up to that! You won’t be bored at all on your fall adventure to the farm. There are activities galore including seeing farm animals, train rides, fun games, and so much more.

Take a wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch and pick out the perfect one.

Peacock Road Family Farm is open every day of the week except Monday. Make sure to check which activities and events are happening on the day you plan to go.

Saturday and Sunday come with a slew of fun adventures: pony rides, pig races, mazes, apple slingshot, hay mound, and more! General Admission rates apply. The fall also brings lots of fun weekend events at Peacock Road Family Farm.

Andy T’s Farm

Andy T’s is most famous for the sweet corn and has grown to be one of Michigan’s largest farm markets. Besides the delectable corn, Andy T’s also runs a pumpkin patch in the fall. They’re open daily from 8 AM – 7 PM during pumpkin season to offer great pumpkin picking.

If you’re not out picking a pumpkin, check out the expansive green house or the scratch bakery that churns out amazing pies, breads, pumpkin rolls, cookies, and donuts.

Andy T’s is known to attend lots of local farmers markets, so be sure to check out their delicious produce during the summer and fall months.

Brimley’s Pumpkin Farm

You won’t want to miss this small, family-owned pumpkin farm featuring a “low-key, no frills” experience. Brimley’s offers mostly organically grown jack-o-lantern pumpkins and colorful ornamentals.

Make sure to bring cash and exact change. This is a self-serve operation.
