The Michigan History Museum gives you a walk through of Michigan’s past, all the way from the earliest people up to the late 20th century. There are three floors to walk you from past to present!

02. Meet “Carl”

In the middle of the building is a huge tree named “Carl” that grows all the way up, surrounded by a glass sculpture fountain. Not something you get to see every day. Sometimes people send him cards! 03. See History Come to Life

History comes to life when you see it in front of you. Exhibits like the S&H green stamp store, an old-time movie theater, a replica mail-order bungalow, classic cars, the Henry Ford assembly line, a replica copper mine, and so much more make history way more relatable.

04. Be a Show-Off

The Michigan History Museum is a great place to take out-of-towners. Have a visiting grandparent or family member that wants to see the sights? Don’t miss this one for showing someone not as familiar with Michigan what a cool heritage we have and add depth to a visit to Lansing!

Coming up 

01. Michigan Archaeology Day

Coming up SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19th. Don’t miss this one! For the kid who wants to be an archeologist, or adult who’s always wondered, here’s your chance. Talk to archaeologists about investigations and buried artifacts that tell the story of 14,000 years of Michigan history.

This event is FREE for all ages. There are demonstrations, presentations, artifact displays, and hands-on activities…plus, a scavenger hunt with the chance to win some amazing prizes!

02. Second Saturdays

Every 2nd Saturday of the month the museum has special activities from 11 am – 3 pm. These are for kids ages 5 to adults and are included with admission. Don’t miss the upcoming Second Saturdays including a Color Quest Scavenger Hunt and Design a Treasure Chest.

03. Silver Bells in the City Celebration

During Lansing’s winter Silver Bells in the City Celebration, the Michigan History Museum is a must stop! They’ll be live music, snacks, and make-your-own felt hand warmers and paper crafts, with FREE ADMISSION and FREE PARKING from 5 – 9 p.m. during the event.
